Business Location Assistance
BREDA and our member communities can assist you in gathering the information you need to select a suitable location to live and do business in the region.
Our staff and partners have intimate local knowledge of commercial, industrial, residential and recreation properties available for new or expanding businesses. Many of our partner communities have property available for development.
You can click on the link to real estate in the region to search available listed properties or contact the BREDA office or for assistance.
Regional Coordination
One of the primary values in BREDA and our partnership structure is the ability to provide regional coordination of common industry issues and opportunities.
What this means to you is that BREDA can be a single contact point to the region. Whether you are trying to address a regional issue or seeking opportunity in the region, wecan help.
New Business Start-ups
Our office has experience working with dozens of new businesses every year in the region. They are adept at knowing what is needed and where to get it.
Services are available for developing a business plan, assessing markets, securing financing, finding a location, dealing with regulations, and any other issue related to new business start-ups.
Simply contact our office and we will be pleased to meet with you and discuss your needs.
Business Financing
A variety of financing sources are available in the region. The BREDA office keeps up to date on special programs for new or expanding businesses. We can assist you with advice on your funding application and help you access small business programs.
Business Information
Services are available to respond to any business related question that you may have. Links to a variety of information sources are maintained and you will be assisted in ‘path finding’ your way through what is sometimes a maze of government or other sources. Whether it’s simply a need to find out about a government regulation, searching for new suppliers, or needing research information for a new business investment- there is help available.
Dealing with Governments
Serving as that important ‘link’ between government and business, BREDA has considerable experience in dealing with local and senior governments. This includes a wide range of issues ranging from ‘wading through’ government regulations and accessing government programs to effective lobbying with governments on industry issues.
As a community based economic development organization, BREDA plays a role in removing obstacles that can impede business development. We have provided extensive research on issues like the need for special attention to rural industry roads, the need to reduce taxes that limit development, and a variety of smaller issues brought forward by individual businesses.
Addressing Labour Shortages
An increasing challenge impacting regional businesses is the difficulty finding suitable labour. BREDA realizes that development in the region requires a labour supply and is prepared to assist industry to find labour sources.
The training institutes in the region have programs designed to develop a sustainable labour force. In addition to existing programs there is interest in partnerships with industry to develop custom training for specialized needs.
The BREDA office can direct you to contacts in the training centres.
Taxation Issues
BREDA and our partner communities are interested in assuring a fair tax structure in support of the industry in the region. Lobbying efforts are undertaken with senior governments and member communities are open to discussion on tax issues within their jurisdiction.
Some communities have special tax incentives for new business and/or other support that assists new business establishment.
Contact the BREDA office for more information.
Business Opportunities
New business opportunities are available as a result of expanded economic development in the region. For example, there is an under-representation of oil and gas service businesses in this area when compared to other oil and gas regions.
BREDA has studied issues such as this and has determined that there is opportunity to provide more localized servicing at lower overall operating costs.
There is also less competition for labour in this region and some potential workforce who would work in the industry if they could be located closer to home in the area.
In addition, major changes to the provincial business tax structure in the past few years have made the Battlefords location more desirable.
BREDA is experienced in dealing with the evaluation of new business opportunities and is prepared to assist you in the business planning and financing of your new venture.
