Parks & Recreation
If you enjoy the great outdoors, the Battlefords is your kind of place.
Golfing, fishing, camping, swimming, horseback riding, hunting, boating, canoeing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing – enjoy all these great recreational activities and more within a half hour drive of the Battlefords.
North of the Battlefords, Jackfish country is situated on a fertile park belt that extends along the North Saskatchewan River and surrounds two beautiful lakes, Jackfish and Murray. The tourism industry flourishes in the summer months and the population increases to in excess of 5,000 people.
The Battlefords Provincial Park, about a half an hour north, is a four-season recreational park featuring a host of facilities and amenities, including an 18-hole championship golf course and resort called Jackfish Lodge Golf and Convention Centre. Here in the city, the superb North Battleford Golf and Country Club, one of the top rated courses in Saskatchewan, overlooks the spectacular river valley. Meticulously manicured fairways and greens and a choice of three tee boxes on every hole make the course playable for all abilities.
The Battlefords River Valley is a beautiful place to enjoy hiking and skiing or just experience the panoramic view. Some highlights of the River Valley consist of King Hill Lookout, Battlefords Wildlife Federation Interpretive Centre, Battlefords Goose Project, Finlayson Island and a new boat launch developing in 2007.
Our recreation facilities include an indoor swimming pool, four hockey arenas, curling rinks, ball diamonds, football fields, soccer pitches, Horseshoe pitches, tennis courts and a track and field complex. In wintertime, enjoy the best down hill skiing in Saskatchewan just 20 minutes west of the community at Table Mountain Regional Park, a 500-acre ski complex that attracts 65,000 to 75,000 skiers and snowboarders each year.
There is exceptional cross country skiing on Finlayson Island in our river valley. Blue Mountain Outdoor Adventures, just 20 minutes northeast of the Battlefords, offers 40 kilometres of some of the worlds best cross country ski trails and one of the worlds longest zip lines.
The Battlefords offer many different recreation programs for all ages including the Battlefords Sailing Club, fitness, cooking, home decorating and adult workshops, summer playground programs, and many more.
Also coming soon to the Battlefords, a fabulous multipurpose facility featuring an indoor pool, soccer pitches, racquet courts, a curling rink and a performing arts centre. This facility will provide residents of the Battleford with similar benefits enjoyed by people living in large Canadian Cities.
